So for more mental health related videos check out this playlist: 🤍 Generic name: Diazepam. Brand names: Valium and Stesolid. Available as regular tablets or injections. How to use it? Swallow the tablets with half a glass of water. If you want to use it as an injection. Your doctor or nurse will administrate it. Duration of use? It is often discouraged to use Diazepam for more than several weeks straight. As this can increase your risk for becoming dependent on this drug. Which means that you will get withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking it. When to use it? Diazepam is part of a group of drugs called Benzodiazepine. It can be used to decrease symptoms of several medical conditions, like: - Anxiety disorders - Stress disorder - Severe sleep disorders or insomnia - Acute alcohol withdrawal symptoms - Epilepsy - Muscle spasms - Tetanus - Pre-eclampsia or eclampsia - Premedication for sedation during minor surgical interventions What is the correct dosage? The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms.Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you. - Severe anxiety or stress in Adults: 2 - 5mg 2-3x/day. In severe cases this can be slowly increased to about a max. 30 mg/day. - Severe sleeping disorder in adults: 2,5 - 20mg, which should be taken 1-2 hours before going to bed. - Alcohol withdrawal symptoms in Adults: 5 - 20mg. What are common the side-effects? - Very common (10%): drowsiness, decreased emotions and decreased alertness. - Common (1-10%): fatigue, confusion, decreased motor skills, tremors of the limbs and withdrawal symptoms. - Uncommon (0.1-1%): headache, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, drowsiness, balance disorders, slurred speech, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and allergic skin changes. - Rare (0.01-0.1%): restlessness, irritability, aggression, delusions, hallucinations, psychoses, amnesia, nightmares, depression, insomnia and unconsciousness. - Very rare (0.01%): severe allergic reaction. Safety: First of all be careful to combine Diazepam with alcohol. As this might increase it’s side effects. In addition, it can be dangerous to drive while using this drug. As it can cause you to become drowsy, sleepy and/or dizzy. If you experiencing any of these side effects then please do not drive. Furthermore, Diazepam can have interactions with other drugs your are taking. always discuss this with your prescribing doctor. Originally approved in 1959, diazepam marketed as Valium ultimately became the first drug to surpass $1 billion in yearly sales. Even though the drug is more than 60 years old, it still ranks as the 112th most frequently prescribed drug in the United States. This benzodiazepine belongs to the same family as Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Serax and Restoril. Principally prescribed to treat anxiety related disorders, diazepam may be helpful in combating skeletal muscle spasms, alcohol withdrawal related delirium tremens and short term insomnia. Diazepam also may ameliorate complications resulting from hallucinogens and certain stimulants - LSD, cocaine and methamphetamine. Diazepam also provides temporary relief of seizures. Governmental guidelines discourage use of the benzodiazepines in general and specifically diazepam. Diazepam has a long half life and tends to accumulate in the body with regular use. In senior citizens, diazepam may interfere with memory and coordination and result in confusion, slurred speech, difficulty walking and depression. Non-medical use of diazepam in combination with opioids regularly leads to respiratory depression, coma and death. An intentional or accidental overdosage with diazepam by itself seldom results in death. Common drug related fatalities occur with various mixtures of diazepam, alcohol, opioids, barbiturates, heroin and other central nervous system depressants. This lethal cocktail kills more than 10,000 individuals each year.

El diazepam es un fármaco con actividad ansiolítica perteneciente al grupo de las benzodiazepinas, que actúa sobre nuestro cerebro reduciendo la tensión y ansiedad cuando se administra a bajas dosis. El diazepam presenta efectos sedantes, favoreciendo el sueño, normalizando el tiempo necesario para conciliarlo, su duración y reduciendo el número de interrupciones del mismo cuando se toma a altas dosis. Este medicamento está indicado para el tratamiento del insomnio, la agitación, así como de estados de ansiedad asociados a trastornos emocionales o depresión. Sólo debería utilizarse cuando estas situaciones sean intensas y limiten la calidad de vida del paciente. Otra indicación del diazepam es el alivio de los síntomas de agitación aguda, temblor y alucinaciones en pacientes con síndrome de abstinencia al alcohol. También está indicado, entre otros, en el alivio del dolor muscular producido por espasmos o inflamación de músculos o articulaciones. Y, por último, también puede utilizarse como tratamiento coadyuvante de los trastornos convulsivos (como epilepsia o convulsiones); es decir, como tratamiento que se administra después del tratamiento principal para aumentar las posibilidades de una curación. Dependiendo de la naturaleza de tu enfermedad, tu edad y tu peso, el médico te recetará la dosis más adecuada y te indicará la duración del tratamiento con diazepam. En el mercado existen presentaciones de este medicamento en forma de cápsulas, comprimidos, gotas orales, soluciones rectales y algunos inyectables que están indicados en el tratamiento de los casos moderados a graves de agitación, ansiedad y tensión psíquica. No debes tomar diazepam en combinación con zumo de pomelo, ya que este puede aumentar los niveles del fármaco en el cuerpo. Es importante que cuando haya que abandonar el tratamiento se haga de forma gradual, reduciendo la dosis durante varios días ya que un abandono brusco puede hacer que reaparezcan los síntomas, y además estos sean más intensos, lo que se conoce como síntomas de rebote. Las benzodiazepinas en general, y el diazepam en particular, suelen ser bien toleradas, aunque existe cierto riesgo de que puedan dar lugar a fenómenos de dependencia tras un uso distinto al recomendado. Por lo tanto, debes evitar tratamientos más largos de lo recomendado, y consultar a tu médico sobre cómo suspender esta medicación cuando ya no la necesites. Además, el diazepam puede provocar somnolencia, especialmente cuando se toma junto con alcohol, por lo que no se aconseja el consumo de bebidas alcohólicas durante el tratamiento. Por la misma razón, debes tener precaución cuando vayas a conducir o a realizar actividades que pudieran ser peligrosas y requieran concentración. Valium, also known as Diazepam, is a benzodiazepine drug that produces a calming effect. It is used to treat anxiety, seizures and even insomnia. How Does Valium Work? Valium works by binding to GABA ion channels and promoting GABA activity in your nervous system. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, so by increasing GABA activity, valium effectively inhibits the nervous system, reducing excitement signals and calming your brain and your body. What are the side effects? Valium can cause dizziness, drowsiness, weakness and confusion. Don’t take valium with alcohol, it will amplify the effects which can lead to respiratory depression and loss of consciousness. Also, be careful with grapefruit! It is metabolised by an enzyme called CYP3A4, and so is valium. When combined, it can slow your metabolism so you absorb more of the drug, making it far more potent! Finally, if you use valium regularly, you will build up a tolerance, meaning you will need more of the drug to get the same calming effects, but this can be very dangerous and potentially lead to an overdose. If you find yourself taking Valium regularly, try to get some help and find an alternative relaxant. Zudem hält er europaweit Vorträge für Entscheider zu den Themen Positionierung, Guerilla-Marketing und Verkaufen mit Herz. Otro uso del diazepam es el pre-operatorio. Las dosis de uso más común son de 2 a 10mg al día normalmente por la tarde o por la noche. Hay que tener en cuenta que el diazepam provoca dependencia psicológica y física. Es por esto, que el tratamiento con diazepam debería ser lo más corto posible mientras se aborda la causa real de la ansiedad y con un máximo de tratamiento de 2-3 meses. ¿Debería tomarse el diazepam durante el embarazo? NO debería tomarse durante el embarazo ni la lactancia ya que pasa al feto y a la leche materna. Por su mecanismo de acción debería evitarse la conducción o uso de maquinarias, sobre todo si se consume con alcohol, ambos depresores del sistema nervioso central. De ahí que esté totalmente contraindicado tomar alcohol cuando se está en tratamiento con diazepam. Incluso podría llevar a la muerte.
